Malay singer-songwriter Firdhaus not only speaks fluent Mandarin, his self-penned Mandarin ballad is now a hit on TikTok in China.

The composition, Gulf Of Alaska, has garnered a staggering 170 million views and counting on the short form video-sharing app, which goes by Douyin in China, according to Sin Chew Daily.

The Chinese-language newspaper also reported that although Firdhaus grew up in a traditional Malay household, he picked up Mandarin while attending Chinese school.

Gulf Of Alaska is part of the 22-year-old's latest EP, A Letter, which was released in early November.

Firdhaus has been singing since he was a young boy. His interest in songwriting began at 12 when he was introduced to Taiwanese singer Jay Chou.

He is currently signed to Malaysian record label Loolala Music.
