These overseas YouTubers are in awe of Malaysian singers

You've probably come across reaction videos before, where YouTubers give their honest feedback on an array of content - the latest music video, shocking scenes from a TV episode, a live musical event and so forth.

While reaction videos have been around for quite a while, it seems a growing number of YouTubers have turned their attention to musical talents from Malaysia.

Here are five performances by Malaysian artistes that YouTubers couldn't stop raving about:

Siti Nurhaliza's memorable digital duet with Whitney Houston

Vocal legend Whitney Houston, who passed away in 2012, recorded an unreleased track, Memories, in 1982. Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza was given the opportunity to sing alongside Houston in a digital duet during her concert at Stadium Negara in 2016.

Not only were they drawn by the novelty of the unreleased ballad, YouTubers, particularly from Houston's home country, were mesmerised by Siti's vocal prowess and her ability to blend with Houston's vocals. Some were even moved to tears.

Sarah Suhairi killed it on Blackpink's Ddu-Du Ddu-Du

Up-and-coming singer Sarah Suhairi was barely out of secondary school when she competed on reality talent series Big Stage in 2018. Sarah blew the competition out of the water especially when she covered Blackpink's megahit Ddu-Du Ddu-Du. The performance not only impressed Malaysians but Koreans who praised her accurate Korean pronunciation while keeping to the dance choreography effortlessly.

Five Malaysian vocal powerhouses gave this Mariah Carey song their all

We can definitely see why this performance, delivered way back in 2004, is so reaction-worthy. First things first, five prominent Malaysian female vocalists Siti Nurhaliza, Ning Baizura, Misha Omar, Siti Sarah and Liza Hanim were sharing a stage! And secondly, they were singing Mariah Carey's My All but here's the twist, it's in Malay. Now this is what we call a vocal showdown.

Shila Amzah made us Listen

It's been six years since Shila Amzah won third place on China's reality singing series I Am A Singer. Interestingly, YouTubers are still talking about her performance of Listen during the competition. Many commended Shila for successfully putting her own spin on a song iconically performed by Beyonce. You've got to listen to this, if you haven't already.

Ernie Zakri's voice is loud and clear on Ku Bersuara

Many were upset when Ernie Zakri walked away empty handed at this year's Anugerah Juara Lagu after giving one of the night's most memorable performance. But Ernie is getting a lot of love by vocal coaches-turned-YouTubers, who dissected and analysed her every note on the female empowerment anthem and were mesmerised.
