Korean girl group Blackpink released its five-track album Kill This Love back in April 2019, and fans – who call themselves Blinks – have been waiting in anticipation for new music ever since.
In late 2019, YG Entertainment announced that Blackpink's follow-up album would be delayed to 2020, fans took to social media to express their disappointment, with some even calling for the group to leave YG Entertainment.
Now, as we approach mid-2020, Blackpink's March comeback has been postponed yet again due to the Covid-19 outbreak. However, some Blinks noted that while the group's comeback continues to be put off, other groups under YG Entertainment’s management have continued producing new music.
Unhappy with these developments, Blinks started the hashtag “#BLACKPINK1YearOfHiatus” on Twitter, pressuring the entertainment group for a statement. It trended with over 300,000 tweets.
The following day, Blackpink member Jennie posted two selfies on Instagram, with the caption, “Studio life”. In the photos, Jennie can be seen wearing a pair of headphones in a recording studio.
Blinks were quick to point out that Jennie posted a similar selfie before the release of her solo album in 2018. As such, fans think that this is Jennie’s way of hinting at an imminent release.
YG Entertainment has yet to provide an official statement.
