Rock band Bunkface's Kita Punya Malaysia has been selected as the official theme song for the 61st National Day celebrations.
At a press conference last week, Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo said that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was the one who selected the song, adding that it had the catchiest element among the tracks that had been submitted.
The band expressed their gratitude for the honour via a Facebook post:

Formed in 2006, Bunkface comprises lead vocalist Shamsul 'Sam' Anuar (who composed Kita Punya Malaysia), bassist Youk (Farouk Jaafar), and lead guitarist Paan (Ahmad Farhan).
The 61st National Day 2018 celebration, the first under the Pakatan Harapan government, will be held in Putrajaya, with the theme “Sayangi Malaysiaku” (Love My Malaysia).
It is part of a month-long nationwide celebration that will begin at Padang Kota Lama (Esplanade) in Penang on Aug 4 (Sunday), where the PM is set to launch the “Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2018” event, and is scheduled to end in Sabah in time for the Malaysia Day 2018 celebrations.
