It’s April, and that means your favourite American TV shows are winding down their season. But here’s a list of new and returning TV shows to fill in the void.

Disoriental

Having lived in Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and India, Australian stand-up comic Jon Atherton often incorporates his encounters with diverse cultures in his material. This 60-minute special was recorded in Kuala Lumpur in February this year, so we wonder what he’ll say about us.

Disoriental premieres Apr 2 on iflix.

The Resident

This new medical drama follows the ups and downs of a doctor in training at the fictional Chastain Park Memorial Hospital. While there are other medical series, the cast here is what we’re most excited about. This is Emily VanCamp’s return to TV since Revenge ended in 2015. And fans of The Good Wife and Gilmore Girls will recognise Matt Czuchry as Conrad Hawkins, a brilliant but arrogant doctor. Hmm, seems to be a pattern.

The Resident premieres Apr 6, 10pm on Foxlife (Astro Ch 711).

New Girl

Can you believe it’s time to say goodbye to New Girl? The final season of the sitcom about four young adult housemates happens three years after Season 6. Will Jess and Nick be together? It’ll be nice to see how they turn out as they enter a new phase in their lives. And another thing, there’s only eight episodes instead of 22, so savour every moment. Starring Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson and Max Greenfield.

New Girl Season 7 premieres Apr 11, 9.30pm on Foxlife (Astro Ch 711).

Lost In Space

This reboot of the hit (and later cult) 1960s sci-fi series Lost In Space sees the Robinson family accidentally landing in an unknown planet in the year 2046. Relationships are tested as they navigate through the dangerous new environment. Starring Toby Stephens, Molly Parker and Taylor Russell.

Lost In Space premieres April 13 on Netflix.

Westworld

Details are so scant about Season 2, it makes us want to watch even more. Westworld centres on an amusement park that fulfills the wildest fantasies of its high-paying guests. The one thing we know is the introduction of a new section in the park, a Japanese-themed Shogun World. Starring Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden and Thandie Newton.

Westworld Season 2 premieres Apr 23, 9am (primetime encore at 10pm) on HBO (Astro Ch 411).

Doppelganger

Li Wei meets a wealthy businessman Rui Ming on a cruise ship who looks just like him. When the cruise gets into an accident and Rui Ming dies, Li Wei assumes his identity. He pretends he has had a memory loss and tricks Rui Ming’s wife into believing he is her husband. The 20-episode series marks the first time Christopher Lee and Fann Wong (who are married in real-life) are acting together since 2009.

Doppelganger is available on dimsum.
