The popular TV programme heads to Terengganu in a special telemovie dedicated to fans.
IN the last episode of the popular edutainment TV programme Oh My English! Season 2, Henry Middleton (played by actor Zain Saidin) was caught in a major dilemma that involved his British girlfriend, Sara Jane (Gabriella Robinson) and Cikgu Ayu (Tiz Zaqyah), both of whom were going back to their hometowns.
It was quite difficult for Henry to make a choice between the two women so Oh My English! (OME) fans were given the chance to help the character out by casting their votes online. The response for that was very encouraging as over 50,000 votes were counted, and 89% of these votes went to Cikgu Ayu.
Now, fans can finally see what happens next in the Oh My Ganu! telemovie, which premieres tonight on Astro’s TVIQ channel.
In the movie, Henry travels to the beautiful state of Terengganu to win back the heart of Ayu. He won’t be alone, though, as the original OME cast will tag along with him. This includes Mohd Salleh (Harun Salim Bachik) and some of the students of “Kelas 3 Merah” like See Yew Soon (Roax Tan), Jibam (Akhmal Nazri), Azlin (Izara Aishah), Hani (Iezahdiyana), Mazlee (Zhafir Muzani), Azlan (Syafie Naswip), Shafiq (Addy Ashraf), Anusha (Kaameshaa) and Farouk (Amer Shariff).
Oh My Ganu! picks up where the last season of OME left off, with two new funny characters played by Zizan Razak (of Raja Lawak fame) and Izzue Islam joining in the fun. The two actors were added to the mix thanks to countless requests from fans via Facebook and Twitter. Zizan and Izzue are also from the East Coast of the peninsula, so their involvement would bring a sense of authenticity to their characters.
Meanwhile, for Zain, 29, playing Henry has been fun and he is sure that the telemovie will be enjoyed by many.
“Yes, Henry Middleton now has to travel to Terengganu to win back Cikgu Ayu’s heart. But it will not be easy for Henry as Ayu has a secret admirer (played by Zizan) in her hometown,” said Zain in a phone interview.
He said that in the show Henry looks to Ayu’s brother Aiman (Izzue) for help in romancing her.
“Filming the movie was fun and with Zizan, who is known for his humour, on board, it was like a non-stop laughing session for all of us,” Zain added. He revealed that his favourite scene from Oh My Ganu! is one that involves his character getting beaten up.
According to Putri Yasmin Megat Zaharuddin, vice president of Astro’s GenNext Business, Oh My Ganu! is a telemovie made especially for fans.
She noted that the educational sitcom attracted over 5.2 million viewers in the last season alone, has close to 36,000 YouTube subscribers, 525,000 Facebook fans and more than 75,000 followers on Twitter so far. Hence, the telemovie was produced as a “token of appreciation to all our fans for their continuous support,” said Putri Yasmin.
“Oh My Ganu! promises a unique and fun experience with the presence of Izzue Islam and Zizan Razak. Throughout the shoot, the crew could not stop laughing and in many ways, the film has exceeded our expectations,” she added.
