A new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony Award-winning Sunset Boulevard will debut at Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore in February 2025, starring Sarah Brightman as Norma Desmond.

This marks the 64-year old singer's first musical theatre performance in Singapore and Asia.

“I am thrilled to be making my Asian theatrical debut with in Singapore. I have always admired Andrew’s work on this musical and look forward to delving into the incredible score and iconic character of Norma Desmond. So, are you ready, Singapore? Because I am ready for my close-up!" said Brightman in a media statement.

Best known for originating the role of Christine in The Phantom Of The Opera, Brightman is the world’s best-selling soprano. Her portrayal of Norma Desmond promises to captivate audiences with its blend of grandeur and tragedy.

Sunset Boulevard is presented in Singapore by Base Entertainment Asia.

It tells the story of faded silent film star Norma Desmond, who, after being discarded by Hollywood, forms a volatile relationship with struggling screenwriter Joe Gillis, leading to a tragic outcome.

The musical, based on Billy Wilder's 1950 classic film, premiered in London in 1993 and won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Directed by Paul Warwick Griffin, the new production, co-produced by GWB Entertainment and Opera Australia, first opened in Melbourne in May 2024.
