VIRTUAL THEATRE: WAYANG PACAK: SERUAN NADI – THE BATTLE CRY OF A DYING RIVER

For a combination of performing arts and environmental issues, this show drives home a strong message. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Ombak-Ombak Artstudio revisits Sungei Pinang, Penang’s largest river basin. Once the heartbeat of Penang life, Sungei Pinang has become the dirtiest river in northern Malaysia.

Through dance, music, and video images, Seruan Nadi explores the continuing impact of development, construction, pollution, diversion and canalisation on the natural state and flow of the Sungei Pinang that has resulted in perennial flash floods. The performers echo the desperate call of the living river to save it from being choked to death.

The in-person performance has sold out at the Hin Bus Depot in George Town this weekend. But viewers can still catch this show for free on Facebook.

VIRTUAL PERFORMANCE: PROJECT LIMINA - CYCLE OF EMOTIONS

Projek limina, a multi-sensory interactive art installation by Seni Tiga Lab: Unit C comes to an end tonight.

And if you can’t make it to this public offering at the KongsiKL arts venue on Jalan Klang Lama on, fret not.

Projek limina was complemented with a series of virtual (pre-recorded) performances, available now on KongsiKL’s Youtube channel.

The virtual presentation, presented by VerSes Music Ensembles, is designed to give viewers more time and personal space to contemplate their emotional states in their own private and comfort zone.

It features guest performer YS Tang (classical guitar), Darrel Chan (countertenor) and the VerSes Acapella.

VIRTUAL WAYANG KULIT: PANGGILAN LANG

Date and Time: Dec 18, 3pm

Panggilan Lang tells a wayang kulit story of the mighty Wau Lang kite, native to Terengganu.

A collaborative work between artist Cheng Yen Pheng and BaiZam Generation, this pre-recorded traditional show will run for approximately 20 minutes.

Panggilan Lang will be streamed via Zoom. Registration required. This is part of Cheng's When Land Tortoises Meet Sea Turtles community project.

VIRTUAL THEATRE: LIVING TOGETHER - EP 2: MOTHER

Written and directed by CloudTheatre co-founder William Yap, this is a family story revolving around love, relationships and a secret life.

Jackey and Sam were busy moving in, caught up in the unpacking and setting up of their home. That meant Jackey did not return to his hometown to celebrate his mother’s birthday. She pretends that she’s alright with his absence but she is deeply saddened. Her best friend notices it and tries to get her out of her depressive state. At the same time, Jackey and Sam begin to quarrel in the midst of moving in and an unpleasant childhood memory surfaces.

Living Together - Ep 2: Mother, ticketed, will be streamed via CloudTheatre. The play will be presented in Mandarin with English subtitles.

IN TRANSIT-ION POST-PROJECT DISCUSSION

How do you stage a performance art series in a public space?

Orang Orang Drum Theatre, the arts outfit behind the In Transit-ion: A Poetic MRT Journey, will unpack the pandemic project series in an upcoming virtual post-project discussion.

Viewers can hear from the Orang Orang Drum Theatre team and collaborators about how, in the middle of a pandemic, they planned and executed shows at MRT stations and in train carriages.

They will also talk about the concept of public space and how physical movements and the arts play a role in giving people the power to function in it. If you have questions, you can join the dialogue.
