VIRTUAL EXHIBITION: MINI ZOO - HASANUL ISYRAF IDRIS

Mini Zoo is Penang-based contemporary artist Hasanul Isyraf Idris’ poignant testimony of his experience navigating the loss of three family members since Malaysia’s lockdown in 2020.
The exhibition’s title refers to the artist’s feeling of being trapped in his own physical and mental space throughout this period, a feeling he explored simultaneously through the related theme of biological metamorphosis as he observed the evolving caterpillars and pupae he cared for in his studio. It is through drawing that the artist found solace in these dreams, observations, and collected images.
This poignant exhibition - a collaboration between The Back Room KL and Richard Koh Fine Art - bears these exercises in remembrance and acceptance.

In this 10-minute monologue featuring Amin and Nasrul Azhar, get ready to go on a rollercoaster ride as the young actors voice out their frustrations at the Leader.
This mysterious figure in power has earned the characters’ consternation for his poor handling of a nationwide disaster.

VIRTUAL TOUR: CELEBRATE MALAYSIA

Get to know our country in MinNature Malaysia’s virtual gallery tour this weekend, featuring miniatures and dioramas.
Take a virtual peek at Tanjung Tualang Tin Dredge No.5 in Batu Gajah, Perak, the last tin dredge in the country, hover over to Penang’s iconic Fort Cornwallis or slide to Kedah’s historic Bujang Valley archaeological site.
In Part 1 (Sept 4), find out how MinNature started, get to know the artisans behind the figurines and dioramas.
In Part 2 (Sept 5), get up close and personal with dioramas depicting kampung life, complete with paddy field scenes, road side stalls and even children playing tarik upeh and Chinatown scenes depicting Chinese opera performances and the dying art of lantern and lion (dance) head-making.

MUSICAL: TUNKU THE MUSICAL

If you missed the online premiere of KLPac’s archival recording of Tunku The Musical on YouTube on Aug 31, don’t worry. You can still catch the musical online in the next few days.
An original creation by director Joe Hasham for Malaysia’s 50th anniversary celebrations, it is timely to revisit this production now.
Written by Lim Chuang Yik and Teng Ky-Gan starring Tony Eusoff, Maria Yasmin and more, this musical brings you through a 50-year journey that has all the colour, drama, excitement, anticipation, heartache, sorrow and uncertainty of that fateful Saturday morning on Aug 31, 1957, when the cries of “Merdeka!” reverberated across the country.
As a fun anecdote, Hollywood star Mel Gibson appeared at the Gala Night of this musical in 2007.
