Growing up, history was my favourite subject. To be able to read and imagine life one, two, three hundred years ago was a cherished secret. Till this day, war history still fascinates me.
The Summer Before The War carries us to the idyllic town of Rye in East Sussex, England. The year is 1914, and the impending arrival of Beatrice Nash has caused quite a stir in the little town. She has been selected to teach Latin, and for some unknown reason, women are not supposed to teach Latin. This question is like an itch I am unable to scratch, constantly buzzing at the back of my mind throughout the entire read.
