The search for the right kids to play Walter and Danny in Zathura was extensive. Five hundred boys auditioned for each of the two roles but the filmmakers finally found their leads – Josh Hutcherson and Jonah Bobo – in New York City.
One important criterion the actors needed was physical stamina to withstand the rigours of the shoot. That’s because most of their time was spent in harnesses, swinging from wires, running from creatures, as well as being tossed around on sets that tilted and shook.
