When it comes to IT solutions for business intelligence and core transactional systems, some may be surprised to learn that one of the biggest companies in the business worldwide is based right in our own backyard.
With its principal operations based in Petaling Jaya, Adv Fusionex Sdn Bhd has achieved much in recent years with a string of awards and a listing on the London Stock Exchange (LSE).
Offering a wide range of IT solutions for numerous industries, Fusionex impressed investors with the largest technology initial public offering on the LSE for 2012.
Coming from an IT background, managing director Ivan Teh founded Fusionex in 2005 on the premise that existing business intelligence software, while very powerful, was lacking in ease of use and user-friendliness.
“I felt that there was a need to develop a software system that did not need a whole lot of training to use; something that was more intuitive and more interactive,” said Teh.
Today, the pride and joy of Fusionex, its big-data analytics software called Giant boasts a clean, easy-to-use interface made for touch screens, considerable data processing power with real-time displays and universal compatibility, making the software accessible even from smartphones.
Though the company’s clients includes many big international names such as Jones Lang LaSalle, Hewlett-Packard, Starwood Hotels and Resorts and more, Teh assures that Fusionex is a fully homegrown brand.
“Over the last five years, Fusionex has grown 10 times in terms of revenue and profit and we will continue to grow tremendously,” said Teh, projecting a five-year compound annual growth rate of about 50% and a market capitalisation exceeding RM500mil.
Some of Fusionex’s success can be attributed to its heavy spending on research and development (about RM50mil over a five-year period) as well as its strategic partnership with other multinational IT giants such as Microsoft, Dell and IBM.
“Fusionex employs about 1,000 people worldwide with approximately 430 employees based in our new office in Petaling Jaya,” said Teh.
Having moved in only about two months ago, the new office is another thing that Fusionex can be proud of, as it is certainly one of the most interesting workplaces in Malaysia.
“Seeing as we were software designers ourselves, rather than spend on hiring an interior designer, we used our own creativity to come up with our own designs.”
Dubbed the “Office of Superheroes”, the office has a very futuristic science-fiction feel, bearing motifs reminiscent of the movie, Tron.
“Fusionex occupies a total floor area of 40,000 sq ft across two levels, and all our meeting rooms are designed and named after superhero characters such as Superman, Wolverine and Captain America,” said Teh.
Outside of their work, employees can access the many recreational facilities at the office, which include a small gym, games room, karaoke room, multiple well-stocked pantries and even a power nap room complete with a large bed.
Working parents at Fusionex can even leave their young children in the hands of a capable nanny at the nursery room should the need arise.
With a state-of-the-art interactive projected whiteboard and large touch screens all over the workplace, the Fusionex office feels like the office of tomorrow.
