THE business of vehicle registration plates may seem like peanuts in comparison to the sale of automobiles but on rough estimates, sales of this seemingly insignificant identity badge can easily touch RM24mil per annum nationwide.
This is based on statistics from the Road Transport Department (JPJ), which said there were 1,237,835 car and motorbike registrations in 2012, while the selling price of a pair of acrylic plates with stick-on numbers is RM20 by Jasaramai Signage, a company operating out of a single shoplot in the Temasya Industrial Park, Shah Alam.
