The perfect storm for deception

WHEN AirAsia founder Tan Sri Tony Fernandes – one of Malaysia’s most recognisable business figures – announced that he was shutting down his Facebook and Instagram accounts, the decision was not about vanity or retreating from criticism. It was a protest.

“I have been the victim of so many scams,” he tells StarBiz 7, visibly exasperated. “Meta can stop all of this. They’re a huge company with massive technology, spending billions on AI – yet allowing these scammers to cheat people.”
