PETALING JAYA: SkyeChip Bhd has entered into a design and engineering partnership with Japan-based SAIMEMORY Corp to support the development of next-generation memory technology for artificial intelligence (AI).

In a joint statement, the companies said SkyeChip would provide design and engineering support, as well as custom intellectual property solutions, for SAIMEMORY’s Z-Angle Memory (ZAM) programme.

SAIMEMORY develops ZAM, a next-generation memory technology designed for data centres and other environments that require the training and inference of large scale AI models.

The memory technology is designed to enable high-capacity and high-bandwidth data processing, improved processing performance, and reduced power consumption. Through this initiative, both companies intend to deepen their collaboration and build a strong, long-term partnership with a view toward the future commercialisation of ZAM.

Meanwhile, SkyeChip will leverage its expertise in silicon design and integration to support the programme. SAIMEMORY president and chief executive officer (CEO) Hideya Yamaguchi said SkyeChip’s technical expertise and experience would play an important role in developing ZAM.

Meanwhile, SkyeChip CEO Datuk Fong Swee Kiang said: “The SAIMEMORY and SkyeChip engagement extends our role in advanced AI memory programmes. We are committed to SAIMEMORY’s success with ZAM and to the wider opportunity it opens in advanced memory.”
