FBM KLCI continues to retrace higher as domestic sentiment intact

KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI started on a positive footing after a three-day rebound on the heels of the tabling of Budget 2027.

The key index was up 3.57 points to 1,627.26, amid improved domestic sentiment over the fiscal initiatives announced by the government.

However, Apex Securities noted the market breadth remained sharply negative, which suggests the recovery was concentrated in selected larger-cap names.

"Persistent foreign selling and weakness across regional technology markets could therefore limit further upside," it said in its outlook.

It added that easing US Treasury yields and crude oil prices may provide some relief, although investors are likely to remain cautious ahead of key US inflation data.

Overall, it expects the KLCI to remain range-bound with a selective trading bias, as domestic policy support offsets an uncertain global macro backdrop.

On the blue-chip index, Press Metal rose 11 sen to RM7.36, CIMB rose six sen to RM7.56 and IHH gained six sen to RM8.04.

Leading actives on the broader market included ACE Market debutant Ecosys surging 44 sen to 71 sen, Zetrix AI down 0.5 sen to six sen and JAKS Resources unchanged at 15 sen.
