Budget 2027: Govt to table e-commerce bill to address unfair competition from foreign firms

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will table an e-commerce bill at the next parliamentary sitting to strengthen accountability among online platforms and sellers, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar said the government was concerned over complaints from small businesses about foreign e-commerce companies entering the Malaysian market without adequate oversight and enforcement.

He said the government would review legal and enforcement measures to protect local micro, small and medium enterprises from unfair competition.

The measures would also seek to ensure the safety of products purchased by consumers.
