KUALA LUMPUR: Exchange 106 will be equipped with full 5G coverage under a collaboration with U Mobile and EdgePoint Towers Sdn Bhd, with the network expected to go live in phases from the fourth quarter of 2026.
In a statement, Exchange 106 said the 454-metre tower at Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) will have in-building coverage infrastructure spanning 453,885 sq m.
More than 900 antennas will be installed across the building, including in lifts and car parks.
Exchange 106 said the project would make it Malaysia’s first fully 5G-enabled supertall skyscraper.
U Mobile will provide the 5G network, while EdgePoint will design and deploy the in-building coverage infrastructure.
Exchange 106 chief executive officer Faris Najhan Hashim said the infrastructure would support tenants using cloud computing, real-time data analytics and Internet of Things (IoT) applications.
“Our tenants are scaling their digital operations, relying heavily on cloud computing, real-time data analytics and IoT ecosystems,” he said.
“By embedding 5G infrastructure into the very fabric of the
building, we are future-proofing the workplace. This strategic partnership ensures that Exchange 106 remains a premier address for businesses that demand seamless, high-capacity connectivity to drive productivity and innovation.”
U Mobile chief technology officer Woon Ooi Yuen said the network would also support applications such as smart parking, access control and IoT.
“By bringing our ULTRA5G network to the building, we are enabling stronger indoor connectivity while providing the foundation for digital applications such as smart parking, access control and IoT. This collaboration demonstrates our capability to support the digital transformation of large-scale enterprises.”
Meanwhile, EdgePoint chief executive officer Muniff Kamaruddin said the infrastructure was designed to accommodate the tower’s scale and anticipated population density.
Exchange 106 is a Grade A commercial tower at TRX, with international businesses accounting for about 90% of its tenants.
