KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) chief executive officer Anuar Fariz Fadzil will step down upon completing his two-year contract on Oct 2, 2026.
In a statement, MDEC said Anuar had informed its board that he would not seek a renewal of his contract as he plans to pursue new opportunities outside the agency.
MDEC chairman Ganesh Kumar Bangah said the board respected Anuar’s decision and credited him with strengthening the agency’s focus on measurable economic outcomes.
“Under Anuar’s leadership, MDEC is today stronger, more focused and better prepared. The foundations Anuar laid will continue to shape MDEC’s work well beyond his tenure,” he said.
During Anuar’s tenure, MDEC secured close to RM180bil in digital investments from more than 1,000 Malaysia Digital-status companies between 2025 and August 2026.
The investments are expected to generate more than 42,000 high-value jobs for Malaysians.
MDEC said Anuar also spearheaded its push towards AI Nation 2030 and sharpened the agency’s focus on jobs, exports, revenue and investments.
He also prepared MDEC for its responsibilities under the Malaysia Digital 2030 action plan, with a focus on artificial intelligence adoption, high-value digital investments, industry transformation, talent development and the growth of “Made by Malaysia” technologies.
Anuar said completing his current contract was the right time to pursue new opportunities.
“I leave with immense pride in what we have accomplished together and with complete confidence in MDEC’s future,” he said.
