Bintulu Port unit appointed operator for 30 years

The appointment follows the transition of Bintulu Port from a federal port to a state port.

KUALA LUMPUR: Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd’s (BPHB) wholly owned subsidiary, Bintulu Port Sdn Bhd (BPSB), has been appointed as the approved operator of Bintulu Port for 30 years.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, BPHB said the appointment by Bintulu Port Authority (Sarawak), with the approval of the Majlis Mesyuarat Kerajaan Negeri, is deemed to have commenced on Sept 1, 2026 and will expire on Aug 31, 2056.

The appointment follows the transition of Bintulu Port from a federal port to a state port.

BPHB said the appointment was set out in the Bintulu Port Authority (Sarawak) (Appointment of Approved Port Operator) Notification 2026, published in the Sarawak Government Gazette on Sept 10.

Under the notification, BPSB will carry out port operations at Bintulu Port in compliance with the Port Authorities Ordinance 1961 and its subsidiary legislation.

Its operations will also be subject to the terms and conditions of the Heads of Agreement (HoA) dated July 27, 2026 between the Sarawak government, Bintulu Port Authority (Sarawak) and BPSB.

The HoA will remain in effect until the parties execute the Port Operation Concession Agreement, which will subsequently govern BPSB’s operation of the port.

“BPSB will continue to operate Bintulu Port under the state regulatory framework and the contractual arrangements described above,” BPHB said.
