Citi appoints Yik Ping Chong as Malaysia commercial banking head

Citi Commercial Bank Malaysia head Yik Ping Chong.

KUALA LUMPUR: Citi has appointed Yik Ping Chong as head of Citi Commercial Bank (CCB) Malaysia, effective immediately.

In her new role, Chong will lead CCB’s strategy and growth in Malaysia, including expanding its mid-sized corporate client base and strengthening existing client relationships.

She will also oversee the business’ growth plans, risk management, governance and controls, Citi said in a statement.

Chong will report to Gunjan Kalra, head of CCB for Japan, Asia North and Australia (JANA) and Asia South, with a matrix reporting line to Citi country officer and banking head for Malaysia Vikram Singh.

She has 26 years of experience in commercial and consumer banking.

Prior to the appointment, Chong was head of digital, technology and communications for CCB Malaysia, where she was responsible for growing the bank’s portfolio across the digital startup, technology and semiconductor sectors.

She also worked with Citi’s investment banking business to help clients access growth capital.

Kalra said Chong’s experience in the Malaysian market and track record in developing client relationships positioned her to lead the commercial banking franchise.

“Her deep understanding of the Malaysian market, combined with her leadership experience and strong client focus, make her exceptionally well positioned to lead our Commercial Banking franchise in Malaysia and drive its next phase of growth,” Kalra said.

Meanwhile, Vikram said Chong’s experience in high-growth industries would support Citi’s efforts to serve companies seeking to expand their businesses.

Chong holds a Bachelor of Computer Engineering from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
