KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) is strengthening the operational performance of its airline portfolio, backed by renewed international safety certifications and improved flight reliability in the first half of 2026.
Malaysia Airlines has renewed its International Air Transport Association (IATA) Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) registration, extending the certification through July 2028. It was also recently awarded the Seven Star PLUS safety rating by AirlineRatings.com.
Sister airline Firefly, meanwhile, maintains its Seven-Star Safety Rating and IOSA registration, with the latter valid until February 2028.
MAG said the certifications reflect the group’s continued focus on safety standards across its airline operations.
The group also recorded improved operational reliability in the first half of 2026 (1H26).
Malaysia Airlines achieved an average on-time performance (OTP) of 90.8% during the period, exceeding its operational targets and reaching a peak of 93.8% in April.
Firefly recorded an even stronger performance, with its 1H26 OTP averaging 92.5% — its highest level in five years — and peaking at 94.2% in March.
MAG said the improvement in schedule reliability also contributed to an almost 50% year-on-year reduction in flight delay-related feedback.
Bryan Foong, chief executive officer of airline business at MAG, said safety remained central to the group’s operations and was a shared responsibility across the organisation.
He said the latest safety accreditations, together with Firefly’s record operational performance, reflected the collective efforts of its employees in maintaining high standards and providing safe, reliable and consistent travel experiences.
