PETALING JAYA: DPS Resources Bhd’s unit Shantawood Sdn Bhd (SSB) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Hangyue Intelligent Electrical Co Ltd to explore the colocation of Chinese enterprises at a proposed 89-megawatt (MW) data centre (DC) facility in Bukit Rambai, Melaka.

The proposed colocation arrangement is expected to involve a minimum tenancy of 15 years at an indicative rental rate of about US$130 to US$230 per kilowatt per month, depending on tenant requirements and subject to definitive agreements.

SSB owns the land earmarked for the proposed DC campus.

DPS said in a statement the project had undergone consultation with Tenaga Nasional Bhd in March, while SDT Engineering Sdn Bhd confirmed sufficient power capacity of up to 89.1MW.

Water supply availability has also been validated through consultations with Syarikat Air Melaka Bhd and GNL Engineering Consultancy.

The company added it received a support letter from the Melaka Chief Minister on July 30 and has submitted the relevant application documents to the Data Centre Task Force.

Under the MoU which remains non-binding at this stage, Hangyue will leverage its network to connect Chinese enterprises with investment and colocation opportunities in Malaysia, while providing digital energy solutions and business matchmaking.

DPS group chairman and founder Tan Sri Sow Chin Chuan said the collaboration could help enhance the utilisation and value of the group’s Bukit Rambai assets.

“The confirmation of power capacity, validation of water supply and support from the Melaka State Government provide an encouraging foundation for us to progress discussions with potential partners and tenants,” he said in the statement.
