Zecon unit secures RM328mil contract for 100MW Sarawak Solar Project

PETALING JAYA: Zecon Bhd's (Zecon) wholly-owned subsidiary, Zecon Renewables (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd (ZRS), has awarded a RM328mil engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contract to fellow wholly-owned unit, Zecon Renewables Sdn Bhd (ZRE).

In a statement, Zecon said the contract is for the development of a 100MWac large-scale agrivoltaic solar photovoltaic (PV) facility at the Kota Petra Green Technology Park (KPGTP) in Sarawak.

“This 100MWac Phase 1 marks the first major activity under the KPGTP masterplan, an important milestone that signals the shift from planning and approvals to execution.

“As the anchor renewable energy project within the park, it sets the template for how future phases will be structured, financed and delivered, and demonstrates to prospective investors and tenants that KPGTP is moving decisively toward becoming one of Sarawak’s leading investment destinations.”

Beyond this first phase, Zecon said a further 300MWac of solar capacity remains available under its electricity licence for solar power, issued by Sarawak’s Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication in February 2025 and valid for 30 years.

“This licence will allow the group to supply industrial tenants at KPGTP directly with green energy, supported by a Battery Energy Storage System that firms up intermittent solar generation to deliver stable, continuous power.”
