Orkim to acquire tanker for RM94.9mil

PETALING JAYA: Orkim Bhd has entered into a memorandum of agreement with Allcontinents International Shipping Ltd to acquire MT Rong Yao Wu Zhou, an International Maritime Organization (IMO) Type II oil and chemical tanker for RM94.9mil.

In a statement, the group said the purchase will be fully funded by proceeds from its existing Sukuk Issuance Programme, together with estimated start-up costs of RM4.2mil.

“The vessel is expected to be delivered no later than Oct 20, 2026. This acquisition marks the group’s 20th vessel, increasing its total deadweight tonnage to 267,024 tonnes.”

Orkim said the acquisition reflects its commitment to sustainable growth while strengthening the group's operational capabilities.

“As a newer-generation vessel, it is expected to contribute to lower emissions intensity compared to older vessels, supporting Orkim's ongoing efforts to operate more sustainably and meet evolving industry and regulatory standards.”

Orkim is principally involved in the ownership, chartering, and operation of vessels, as well as the management of shipping property, freight contracting, and transport businesses
