PETALING JAYA: P A Resources Bhd’s wholly-owned subsidiary, P A Extrusion (M) Sdn Bhd, has secured a RM1.3bil contract from First Solar Inc, First Solar Malaysia Sdn Bhd and First Solar Vietnam Manufacturing Co Ltd to supply aluminium extrusion profiles used in the production of photovoltaic (PV) modules.
In a statement, the aluminium extruder said the 18-month agreement, which commences on July 1, 2026, is its largest contract secured to date and marks its fifth supply agreement with US-based solar technology company First Solar.
Managing director Tan Sri Lau Kuan Kam said securing the contract despite geopolitical uncertainties and a challenging global economic environment reflected First Solar’s continued confidence in the group’s products and manufacturing capabilities.
“This contract provides a solid foundation for the group’s next phase of growth, reinforcing our position within the PV supply chain,” he noted.
“As global demand for renewable energy continues to grow, we remain optimistic about the opportunities ahead.”
To support this growth, Lau said the group’s capacity expansion plans were progressing as scheduled, with its new manufacturing facility targeted to commence operations next year to support growing customer demand.
P A Resources said construction of its new plant is underway after obtaining the necessary approvals, including the development order.
The plant is expected to begin operations in the second half of financial year 2027, more than doubling the group’s monthly production capacity to 8,500 tonnes from 3,500 tonnes currently.
Lau said the group had continued to improve its process flow and manufacturing efficiency through automation and operational enhancements.
“These initiatives have enabled us to achieve cost savings and improve productivity, allowing us to better serve our customers while creating long-term value for our shareholders,” he added.
Separately, P A Resources said it is also expanding into the system window and door segment through its subsidiary P A Project Marketing Sdn Bhd in collaboration with a foreign strategic partner.
Although details of the partner were not disclosed, the group said the venture will offer windows and doors with enhanced soundproofing and thermal insulation capabilities, targeting demand for energy-efficient building solutions.
Lau said this new venture aims to capture the growing demand for energy-efficient building solutions while diversifying the group’s revenue stream.
“We believe this business presents significant growth potential for the group, given the increasing demand for energy-efficient building solutions and the limited availability of comprehensive one-stop system providers in the Malaysian market,” he noted.
Principally involved in aluminium extrusion and fabrication, P A Resources has since expanded into aluminium smelting, aluminium billet production, surface finishing, construction and renewable energy business.
Yesterday, P A Resources closed two sen, or 12.1%, higher at 18 sen, valuing the company at RM278.38mil.
