KUALA LUMPUR: Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd
(BPHB) announced that its wholly- owned subsidiary, Bintulu Port Sdn Bhd (BPSB), will continue to operate Bintulu Port following its transition from a federal port to a state port recently.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the port operator said the Sarawak government has decided that BPSB will be the approved port operator when Bintulu Port becomes a state port.
“Therefore, BPSB is expected to sign an agreement with the relevant state authority to operate, manage and develop Bintulu Port,” it said.
On June 21, BPSB entered into a tripartite agreement with the federal government and the Sarawak government following Bintulu Port’s status change from a federal port to a state port.
“The agreement is intended to release and discharge the federal government from any claims and obligations from the Sarawak government and BPSB that may have arisen from or in connection with the privatisation agreement dated Dec 31, 1992,” it said.
BPHB said the transition and the signing of the tripartite agreement did not affect the day-to-day operations of the port, the continuity of services to customers, or the existing rights and obligations of BPSB under its operating arrangements.
“The group will continue to work closely with the relevant authorities to support a smooth transition and to ensure that port operations remain stable, efficient and uninterrupted,” it added. — Bernama
