KUALA LUMPUR: Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd's group chief executive officer (GCEO), Euan Smith, has stepped down after six years with the company, including more than three years at the helm.

Astro, in a statement today, said that with the platform transition well advanced, it is timely for a change of leadership at Astro to navigate the business moving forward.

Smith joined Astro in April 2020 as group chief operating officer and chief executive officer of TV before being promoted to GCEO in February 2023.

Pending the appointment of a permanent successor, Astro has named Henry Tan as interim GCEO effective June 16, 2026.

Tan previously served as Astro's GCEO from February 2019 to January 2023 and will oversee the group's overall leadership, performance and operations, supported by the executive leadership team.

Smith will continue to provide technical advisory assistance/support to the board until Dec 6, 2026.

“The Astro Board would like to record its appreciation to Smith for his leadership and contributions over the past six years and wish him the best in his future endeavours,” Astro said.

Trading in Astro's securities was suspended at 9 am today pending the release of the announcement and will resume at 10 am.
