Abdul Rahman returns to Sime Darby as chairman

PETALING JAYA: Sime Darby Bhd has appointed Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) president and group chief executive Datuk Abdul Rahman Ahmad as its non-independent non-executive chairman with immediate effect, the company said in a Bursa Malaysia filing.

Abdul Rahman, 56, previously held the same position at Sime Darby from 2019 to 2020.

He previously served as the group chief executive officer of CIMB Group Holdings Bhd and chief executive officer of CIMB Bank Bhd from 2020 to 2024, and earlier as the president and group chief executive of PNB between 2016 and 2020.

Following the appointment of Abdul Rahman as chairman, Sime Darby said Hanizan Hood (52) has ceased to act as interim chairperson.

“She will continue her role as non-independent non-executive director.

In a separate statement, the group announced that Hafiz Imran Ahmad Rashidi has been appointed as an alternate director.

“Hafiz Imran (46) currently serves as vice president at PNB, where he heads the financial institutions cluster within the strategic investments team.

“He is responsible for performance monitoring and value creation initiatives of PNB's strategic and core investee companies.”
