PETALING JAYA: DPS Resources Bhd is teaming up with a China-based firm affiliated to Alibaba Group Holding Ltd to explore the development of an artificial intelligence data centre infrastructure in Melaka.

The project’s first phase involves the delivery of 150 megawatts (MW) to 180MW of capacity, the company said in a stock exchange filing.

It estimates the development cost at about US$7.5mil per MW, with both parties expected to move towards a definitive agreement for the first phase, which would translate 150MW into an indicative value of about US$1.1bil.

DPS’ wholly-owned subsidiary DPS Energy Sdn Bhd signed a memorandum of understanding with Hangzhou Xinfengwei Network Technology Co Ltd, an associate company of Dingding (China) Information Technology Co Ltd, which is an affiliate of Alibaba and listed in New York and Hong Kong.

Under the arrangement, DPS said it will take on the role of infrastructure provider.

It will also retain ownership of the land and infrastructure, while overseeing overall project execution.
