U Mobile, TM holds 5G kick-off meeting, agreement being finalised

KUALA LUMPUR: U Mobile Sdn Bhd held a 5G collaboration project kick-off meeting with Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) yesterday, following the signing of a three-year 5G wholesale agreement in February 2026.

Although not much information was shared on the matter, U Mobile chief technology officer Woon Ooi Yuen said both parties are currently finalising the agreement, and U Mobile is on track to deliver its 5G network to TM.

"We just had our first kick-off meeting yesterday. Now (we are) finalising the agreement and we are on track to deliver (it) to TM," he told a press conference in conjunction with U Mobile's ULTRA5G product unveiling here, today.

On Feb 25, U Mobile announced that it had signed a three-year 5G wholesale contract with TM to provide end-to-end 5G Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) services to the latter.

On U Mobile's exit from the shareholders' agreement (SHA) with Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) last year, Woon said the company will issue another notice to DNB to phase out its network, and will make an announcement in due course.

On May 14, 2025, U Mobile announced that it will exit from the SHA with DNB by divesting its entire 100,000 shares in DNB for RM100,000.

Meanwhile, U Mobile chief consumer business officer Navin Manian said the company is eyeing to expand its retail footprint in Malaysia.

"Two years ago, we had 10 outlets in Malaysia, and as of today, we have 32 outlets nationwide," he said, adding that the company aims to increase the number to 50 outlets by year-end. - Bernama
