Divided on outlook


ECONOMISTS are divided over Bank Negara Malaysia’s (BNM) upward revision of its 2026 gross domestic product (GDP) forecast, with some cautioning that the impact of high operating costs has yet to be fully felt.

Rising costs, driven by surging energy prices and persistent supply chain bottlenecks, have already severely impacted business sentiment, with many firms adopting a “wait-and-see” approach to investment.
