Keyfield unit inks RM72.5mil shipbuilding contract for AHTS vessel

KUALA LUMPUR: Keyfield International Bhd's wholly-owned subsidiary Keyfield Resolute Sdn Bhd has entered into a contract with Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding Ltd and Fujian Funing Shipbuilding Co Ltd. for the shipbuilding of a new dynamic positioning (DP2) anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) with diesel-electric engine for a contract price of US$18mil (RM72.5mil).

"The New DP2 AHTS is part of our strategy to allocate more resources and increase exposure to AHTS while maintaining our core strength in accommodation workboats as we expand our international charters.

"As our existing AHTS are largely committed to or earmarked for long-term charters, the New DP2 AHTS will expand available AHTS capacity and allow us to pursue new tender and spot charter

opportunities without affecting existing commitments," said the group in a stock exchange filing.

It intends to fund the project with internal cash including proceeds from the disposal of vessels.
