Launch of JS-SEZ masterplan, blueprint postponed

KUALA LUMPUR: The launch of the masterplan and blueprint for the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), scheduled for March 30 in Johor Bahru, has been postponed until a date to be announced.

The Economy Ministry said in a statement that this was the decision of a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the Finance Minister, today.

On March 12, Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said his ministry was finalising the JS-SEZ masterplan and blueprint, with the blueprint serving as a general reference, while the more detailed masterplan serves as a guide for all implementing parties in the development of the special economic zone.

According to him, the launch of the blueprint is an important step in detailing the direction of the JS-SEZ development, including aspects of investment strategies, economic cooperation and project implementation in the area.

Taking Shenzhen as an example, the JS-SEZ, a strategic cooperation initiative between Malaysia and Singapore, aims to strengthen economic integration, attract new investments and stimulate economic growth in the southern region of the country.

The economic zone also targets a gross domestic product (GDP) of RM260 billion by 2030, which is expected to completely transform Johor's economic landscape, shifting it to an innovation and technology-based economy and creating over 20,000 high-skill job opportunities. - Bernama
