AirAsia introduces Kaohsiung-Osaka route

KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia Malaysia has introduced a new Kaohsiung-Osaka route, as part of its Kuala Lumpur-Kaohsiung service, marking the next phase of the airline’s network growth across North Asia.

In a statement today, the low-cost carrier said the additional Kaohsiung-Osaka route strengthens connectivity between Taiwan and Japan while leveraging Kuala Lumpur as a key origin hub within the airline’s broader network.

"Starting June 15, 2026, AirAsia will operate daily flights connecting Kaohsiung and Osaka in addition to the existing Kuala Lumpur-Kaohsiung route.

"The new fifth-freedom sector enhances the airline’s presence in North Asia and supports growing demand for travel between Taiwan and Japan, while offering guests more seamless travel options across multiple markets through AirAsia's robust network,” it added.

AirAsia Malaysia general manager Datuk Captain Fareh Mazputra said strong demand for the airline’s first fifth-freedom route between Taipei and Fukuoka last year was a clear testament to the success of this strategy, with an average passenger load factor of over 90 per cent since the service commenced.

To commemorate the new route, AirAsia is offering promotional all-in one-way fares from Kaohsiung to Osaka starting at NT$2,690, while fares from Osaka to Kaohsiung are available from Japanese yen 11,990.

Under the schedule, AirAsia flight AK170 departs Kuala Lumpur at 2:55 am, arrives in Kaohsiung at 7:30 am, and continues from Kaohsiung at 8:30 am to Osaka, arriving at 12:40 pm.

Meanwhile, for the return journey, AirAsia flight AK171 departs Osaka for Kaohsiung at 1:45 pm and arrives at 4:00 pm, before continuing from Kaohsiung to Kuala Lumpur at 5:00 pm and arriving at 9:25 pm.

The flights operate daily, and all timings are based on local time.

The airline said bookings are open from today until Feb 15, 2026, for travel between June 15, 2026 and Oct 24, 2026, via the AirAsia MOVE app and airasia.com. - Bernama
