PETALING JAYA: CelcomDigi Bhd
has announced the completion of its large-scale initiative to bring estate-wide connectivity and tower infrastructure across IOI Corp Bhd
’s plantations in Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia.
In a statement, the mobile network operator said it had deployed over 100 4G and 4G LTE network sites in more than 100 of IOI’s estates nationwide with high-speed next-gen connectivity.
It has also established dedicated direct Internet access or DIA for estate offices within the vicinity.
According to CelcomDigi, the end-to-end solution is set to boost IOI’s digital transformation, enhancing core activities through automation to streamline mill operations, mobile workforce applications, IoT-driven asset and fleet management, and data-led use cases for modern plantation management.
“For the plantation sector, we see that businesses with consistent, estate-wide connectivity achieve measurable improvements in operational efficiency and digital adoption,” said Afizulazha Abdullah, chief enterprise business officer of CelcomDigi.
“Early adopters report higher productivity and faster progress toward revenue goals, particularly through connected operations,” he added.
Widespread connectivity serves as an essential first step in modernising operations in the agriculture industry, enabling organisations to integrate systems and data to create data-driven workflows that allow them to scale efficiently and sustainably.
With high-speed connectivity, IOI is equipped to progressively integrate intelligent systems and automate processes across its plantations and mills to improve productivity, operational visibility and safety.
“IOI’s ambition is to transform our plantations into integrated, connected operations that can compete on productivity and sustainability over the long term,” commented IOI plantation director NB Sudhakaran.
“Partnering with CelcomDigi aligns with this ambition as they bring the network capability and a shared commitment to solving practical challenges on the ground,” he added.
CelcomDigi said the collaboration with IOI reflects its commitment to transforming Malaysia into a 5G digital society by giving local enterprises the digital foundations required for growth.
The company added that this initiative is part of CelcomDigi Business’ goal to digitalise businesses and industries with next-gen connectivity and digital solutions.
This is to ensure that they are prepared to compete and thrive in the digital world.
The provision of reliable, widespread connectivity is also expected to bring benefits to surrounding rural communities by improving access to education, healthcare, and essential digital services, said CelcomDigi.
It added that greater digital inclusion will further support broader socioeconomic progress and enable more communities to participate in Malaysia’s digital economy.
“This is how we power the next phase of growth – building networks that deliver operational gains, support sustainable practices, and strengthen surrounding communities,” Afizulazha said.
