KUALA LUMPUR: Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PayNet) acknowledged the role of The Star for “Excellence in e-payment reporting” at its flagship Malaysian e-Payments Excellence Awards (MEEA) 2025.

Themed “Leading Progress, Recognising Impact,” this year’s MEEA recognised 30 recipients across 22 award categories for their exceptional leadership, innovation and impact in shaping Malaysia’s digital payments ecosystem.

The honourees included financial institutions, businesses, fintechs, and for the first time, media outlets like Star Media Group Bhd.

“Malaysia’s digital payments ecosystem has advanced rapidly, powered by industry-wide collaboration. In 2024, PayNet processed transactions worth almost four times Malaysia’s gross domestic product, reflecting the scale and trust the ecosystem has built together.

“The MEEA 2025 recognises the very organisations that have helped make digital payments the norm for Malaysians everywhere,” Farhan Ahmad, the outgoing group chief executive officer of PayNet, said.

PayNet is Malaysia’s national payments network with a mission to accelerate the country’s payment flows by making the digital payment infrastructure more accessible, widespread and secure.

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) owns 50% of the company while 11 local banks hold the remaining stake. The cooperation between Paynet and BNM has driven key milestones, including the number of DuitNow QR touchpoints now surpassing 2.9 million nationwide, making e-payments more accessible for consumers and small businesses.
