MJets Air launches first direct KL-Sandakan freighter service

MMAG executive director and MJets Air CEO Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi

SANDAKAN: MJets Air Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of MMAG Aviation Consortium Sdn Bhd, the aviation arm of MMAG Holdings Bhd (MMAG), has launched its first direct freighter service today between Kuala Lumpur and Sandakan, marking a key milestone in Malaysia's air cargo connectivity.

MMAG Holdings Bhd executive director and MJets Air chief executive officer Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi said the new direct link eliminates the need for transit via Kota Kinabalu and improves logistics efficiency between Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah.

"It is expected to accelerate trade and delivery for businesses and consumers in Sandakan, Tawau, and Lahad Datu, bringing faster and more reliable air cargo connectivity to the region.

"Delivery times to Sabah will be faster and exporters will have a more efficient channel to regional markets through our continuing service to Hong Kong," he said in a statement here today.

The service, introduced in collaboration with Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), Menteiz Aviation Services and the Transport Ministry operates four times weekly, with plans to expand to daily flights as demand rises.

Ahmad Luqman added that the initiative supports local industries and aligns with the government's efforts under the MADANI economic framework to enhance regional connectivity and trade facilitation.

Inbound cargo into Sandakan will include e-commerce shipments, spare parts, and general freight. Outbound shipments will focus on seafood, bird's nest, and other produce bound for Hong Kong and the Chinese market. - Bernama
