Lestari, CEIG to build 1GW solar park in Kedah

PETALING JAYA: Lestari Tenaga Hijau Sdn Bhd has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China Energy International Group (M) Sdn Bhd (CEIG), as well as a joint collaboration agreement with Kester Sdn Bhd for the implementation of a one gigawatt (GW) Solar Park Project in Kuala Ketil, Kedah.

In a joint statement, Lestari and Kester said the deals are part of an effort to strengthen Malaysia’s commitment towards renewable energy development.

The signing ceremonies were held in conjunction with the International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia 2025 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre – the largest green-energy exhibition in South-East Asia, gathering industry players, investors, and local and international government agencies.

The parties said the Kuala Ketil Solar Park project will be developed on approximately 2,000 acres of land, with a total investment estimated at RM3.5bil.

“Upon completion, the project is expected to generate clean electricity sufficient for over 500,000 households, reduce carbon emissions by up to 1.2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide annually, create more than 2,000 direct and indirect job opportunities during construction and operation, and serve as a new economic catalyst for the state of Kedah and the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia.”

Under the MoU, Lestari Tenaga Hijau Sdn Bhd will act as the local lead developer and primary investor, while CEIG brings expertise in large-scale solar technology, system design, and international engineering.

Kester will play a key role in assisting Lestari Tenaga Hijau in obtaining relevant approvals from the state government of Kedah and associated agencies.
