MACC probe hits Mayu Global unit, bank accounts frozen

KUALA LUMPUR: Mayu Global Bhd has announced that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has summoned a director of its 80%-owned subsidiary, Sunrise Manner Sdn Bhd (SMSB), to assist in an ongoing investigation.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the steel products maker said SMSB’s director, Tang Tiam Hok was called by the MACC on Sept 19 and Sept 23, 2025, to assist in an ongoing investigation under the MACC Act 2009.

“At this juncture, the board has been informed that no charges have been filed against Tang.

“The company will continue to monitor the situation closely and will make further announcements as and when there are material developments,” it said.

Mayu added that MACC has also issued freezing orders on SMSB’s bank accounts under Section 44 of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

The orders, served on Sept 23, affect accounts held with Maybank Islamic Bhd and CIMB Bank Bhd. The freezing orders are valid for 90 days from the date of issuance.

“Following a comprehensive assessment of the group’s financial position, cash flow projections for the next 12 months, and availability of hire purchase facilities (no other credit facilities), the freezing of the bank accounts are not expected to have a material financial or operational impact on the Mayu Group,” Mayu said.
