Sarawak to get EV charger assembly line

KUCHING: A full-fledged electric vehicle (EV) charger assembly line is being planned for Sarawak.

The project will be jointly undertaken by SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd and Amcharge Sdn Bhd under a letter of intent (LOI) sealed at the recent Green Mobility Innovation Summit here. SEDC Energy is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sarawak Economic Development Corp.

Selangor-based Amcharge’s businesses range from green technology to any environmental and engineering-related technology, including consultation, designing, procurement, erecting and construction projects.

The company also engages in solar system leasing, solar power purchase agreement and solar power producer.

According to SEDC Energy, the assembly line project is to meet the rapidly growing demand for EV charging infrastructure in Sarawak, across Malaysia and in neighbouring countries.

Amcharge chief executive officer (CEO) Lee Yeet Chuan said the partnership will help Malaysia achieve its national target of reaching 10,000 EV chargers by 2030 as set by the Malaysian Green Technology Corp.

According to SEDC Energy CEO Robert Hardin, the assembly line project reflects Sarawak’s strong commitment to accelerating EV adoption while creating opportunities for its people. He said the strategic collaboration with Amcharge will focus on human capital development.
