IPOH: KLK Land, a wholly owned subsidiary of Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd
(KLK), is poised to generate a RM3.5bil gross development value (GDV) over the next 10 years through its KLK TechPark in Tanjong Malim.
KLK executive chairman Tan Sri Lee Oi Hian said that the project also builds on the legacy of partnership with the state, creating opportunities and contributing to the state’s growth.
"KLK TechPark represents a continuation of this commitment, aligned with Perak’s ambition to transform its economic landscape.
"We must also acknowledge the state government’s determination in positioning Perak as a destination of choice for investors," he said during the KLK TechPark launching ceremony today (Sept 12).
The launch was officiated by Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, together with Science and Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang and state executive council members.
He added that Phase 1 will see BYD as the anchor investor with a 150-acre (60.7ha) facility, where infrastructure works are targeted for completion by end-2026, while Phase 2, featuring a 200-acre (80.9ha) vendor park for automotive and manufacturing players, is scheduled to be launched by end-2025.
The 1,500-acre integrated industrial hub is expected to generate about 10,000 to 20,000 jobs.
Meanwhile, Saarani welcomed the development, saying that KLK TechPark will complement the growth of the Automotive High-Tech Valley (AHTV).
“KLK TechPark will provide high-tech industrial sites and the vendor ecosystem needed by Proton, Geely and now BYD.
"Together, these projects will transform Tanjong Malim into the region’s largest automotive cluster, spanning conventional cars, electric vehicles (EVs), batteries, components, logistics and research," he said.
“It is no exaggeration to say that this marks the beginning of a world-class sustainable automotive hub right here in Perak.
"With the Muallim Speed-Lane (M-SL) initiative, the project can also move quickly with efficient governance,” he added.
He also said that the project will significantly boost the economy.
Saarani said that thousands of new jobs will be created not only in assembly plants but also in logistics, engineering services, IT and other supporting industries.
"Local vendors will gain opportunities to be part of the global supply chain.
"Our youth will no longer need to migrate to the Klang Valley or beyond, as opportunities will now be available at home,” he said.
