Kuching included in Malaysia Airlines bonus side trip programme

KUCHING:The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) announced today that Kuching has been included as the eighth destination under Malaysia Airlines’ Bonus Side Trip (BST) programme, making it the only Bornean destination in the initiative.

STB said the BST programme, offered exclusively by Malaysia Airlines, allows international travellers flying into Malaysia on international tickets to add an extra domestic destination at no additional fare, paying only the applicable taxes.

"The inclusion in Malaysia Airlines’ BST programme reflects the strong partnership we have built with the Malaysia Aviation Group since the signing of our memorandum of understanding in 2024,” said STB chief executive officer Sharzede Salleh in a statement.

She said the achievement demonstrated how collaboration with the national carrier can create real opportunities for Sarawak, by making it easier for international travellers to include the state in their journey. "Through this initiative, Sarawak is broadening its international reach and reinforcing its commitment to sustainable tourism growth as we prepare for Visit Malaysia Year 2026,” she added.

STB said Kuching’s inclusion in the programme positions Sarawak as the natural gateway to Borneo, highlighting its rich culture, natural wonders, distinctive gastronomy and internationally recognised festivals such as the Rainforest World Music Festival.

At the MATTA Fair Kuala Lumpur starting today to Sept 7, Sarawak will also showcase its attractions through 19 exhibitors, cultural performances, live demonstrations and exclusive travel deals at its pavilion in MITEC. - Bernama
