Nestle’s Sri Muda plant aims to boost Asean growth

KUALA LUMPUR: Nestle Malaysia Bhd’s Sri Muda factory in Shah Alam will serve as the central manufacturing hub for ready-to-drink ultra-heat-treated and recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) products in Asean, with the aim to create high-quality and innovative products to meet the surging demand for cold coffee across Asia.

Bolstered by the recent addition of coffee concentrate capabilities, including the production launch of the Nescafe Espresso Concentrate, Nestle Malaysia said its Sri Muda site now stands among the most advanced facilities of its kind worldwide, backed by more than half a billion ringgit in investments over the past decade.

In addition, the new line will cater to growing demand in both domestic and export markets, including Singapore, Oceania and the Middle East (United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait), with prospects for further expansion into other Asean countries and Europe.

Nestle Malaysia chief executive officer Juan Aranols said: “The successful completion of the Espresso Concentrate is set to tap into new and innovative growth opportunities in the very dynamic coffee space, bringing exciting and convenient ways to enjoy coffee. We are seeding new platforms for future growth, especially for younger generations who are embarking into coffee culture,” he noted.

The group’s coffee business executive officer Raef Labaki said the enhancements enable Nestle Malaysia to tap into the fast-growing cold coffee segment, relevant amongst younger consumers seeking premium cafe-style moments at home.

“This launch reinforces Nescafé’s commitment to delivering a great cup of coffee anytime, anywhere, made with the highest quality of Arabica and Robusta coffee beans,” he added.
