KUALA LUMPUR: EP Manufacturing Bhd (EPMB), through its unit EP Blueshark Sdn Bhd and in partnership with Blueshark Malaysia Sdn Bhd, has begun local assembly of the SoloEra Solo 1C electric motorcycle at its Glenmarie, Shah Alam facility.

In a statement, EPMB said this milestone reflects the joint commitment of EPMB and Blueshark to support the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and Malaysia’s net-zero ambitions.

It also showcases the growing strength of the partnership, combining EPMB’s manufacturing expertise with Blueshark’s EV technology to advance Malaysia’s transition towards sustainable mobility.

The Glenmarie plant has an initial capacity of 12,000 units a year, with assembly of the Solo 2 and Solo 3 models underway to expand options and position Malaysia as a regional hub for two-wheeled EV (2WEV) manufacturing.

"We are thrilled to announce the start of production of SoloEra electric motorcycles at our Glenmarie facility. EPMB continues to make strides towards the forefront of energy-efficient vehicle (EEV) production and advancing the next generation of mobility solutions in Malaysia and beyond,” EPMB executive director Aidan Hamidon said.

Meanwhile, Investment, Trade and Industry deputy secretary-general (Industry) Datuk Hanafi Sakri said mass production of advanced EVs by EPMB with Blueshark will be pivotal in advancing Malaysia’s NETR and vehicle electrification goals.

Separately, Blueshark CEO Jeff Chong said: “This is a proud moment for Blueshark and our partners as we turn our vision for affordable, sustainable mobility into reality.”

“Together with our strategic partners EPMB and Petronas Dagangan Bhd, we are committed to expanding Malaysia’s electromobility ecosystem while establishing the country as a manufacturing hub for Asean and beyond."

The Solo 1C drew over 6,000 registrations of interest within a month of its July pre-launch promotion, which priced the model from RM599, making it one of the most affordable electric motorcycles in the market.
