Bursa Malaysia appoints Mohamed Rafique to board


KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia Bhd has appointed Datuk Mohamed Rafique Merican as an independent non-executive director, effective Aug 15, 2025.

In a statement, the stock exchange operator said Mohamed Rafique will also serve on its audit committee as well as the nomination ad remuneration committee.

Mohamed Rafique, who has over 30 years of extensive experience across financial services investment, power, facilities management and property development, previously served as group CEO of islamic banking, Maybank Group, and CEO of Maybank Islamic Bhd.

He has also held key leadership roles including chief financial officer of Tenaga Nasional Bhd, CEO of Radicare (M) Sdn Bhd, chief financial officer and joint company secretary of Malakoff Bhd, and director of group corporate services of Amanah Capital Partners Bhd. 

Earlier in his career, Mohamed Rafique held senior positions in corporate finance and advisory at various companies, including Taiping Consolidated Bhd, Landmarks Bhd, and Bumiputra Merchant Bankers Bhd.

Mohamed Rafique is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) United Kingdom, a chartered accountant with the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, and attended the Advanced Management Programme at the Harvard Business School. 

He was formerly a member of the Malaysia Accounting Standards Board.
