KUALA LUMPUR: The United States has imposed a 24% tariff on Malaysia as part of President Donald Trump's sweeping wave of trade measures.

Malaysia was featured at the 11th spot of the reciprocal tariff chart Trump held when making the much-awaited announcement.

According to the chart, Malaysia applies a 47% tariff on the U.S., with reciprocal tariffs on Malaysia set at half that rate.

Among the hardest-hit nations are China, which faces a 34% tariff, the European Union at 20%, Vietnam at 46%, Sri Lanka at 44%, Cambodia at 49%, Laos at 48%, and Myanmar at 44%.

Trump stressed that these reciprocal tariffs were a response to duties and other non-tariff barriers put on US goods.

A baseline 10% will apply to all goods entering the US effective April 5, while the higher duties will start April 9.
