Ringgit closes easier against the greenback

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit closed easier yesterday as traders and investors remain guarded ahead of the two-day United States Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting which will begin today, says an analyst.

At 6pm, the ringgit decreased to 4.4450/4490 against the greenback from last Friday’s close of 4.4410/4455.

Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid told Bernama the weaker economic data points in the US, heightened uncertainties over geopolitics in Europe and the Middle East, have resulted in markets going in a defensive mode.
