Maybank ranks among world’s top 500 brands, wins big in sustainable finance

KUALA LUMPUR: Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) has once again secured a spot among the world's 500 most valuable brands, ranking 472nd.

In the banking sector, it stands at 74th globally. Notably, Maybank is one of only two Malaysian brands to make the list and is the only financial institution from Malaysia.

The bank’s president and group CEO, Datuk Khairussaleh Ramli, secured the 85th spot on Brand Finance’s Top 100 Brand Guardians list, making him the only Malaysian CEO to be featured.

Maybank, in a statement, attributed its remarkable re-entry into the global ranking of the world's 500 most valuable brands to an improvement in its Brand Strength Index (BSI).

This was driven by the brand’s positive influence on customer behaviour, which in turn enhanced business performance. Other contributing factors include strong financial performance and resilience in sustaining long-term growth.

Meanwhile, Maybank has been recognised for its excellence in sustainable financing and sustainability transparency from Global Finance by securing five awards within the global, regional and country level for its exceptional initiatives on addressing the adverse effects of climate change and building a more sustainable future for humanity.

In the Global Finance Sustainable Finance Awards announced in January, Maybank received multiple accolades, including Best Bank for Sustainable Financing in Emerging Markets (Global & Asia Pacific), Best Bank for Sustainability Transparency (Asia Pacific), Best Bank for Sustainable Finance (Malaysia), and Best Bank for Sustainable Finance (Indonesia). Additionally, on the financial front, Maybank was named Best Foreign Exchange Bank (Malaysia).

The Global Finance Sustainable Finance Awards recognises financial institutions that excel in supporting a comprehensive range of initiatives essential for a sustainable future while demonstrating creativity in addressing long-term challenges.

Throughout 2024, Maybank made significant advances and surpassed its sustainable financing commitment target of RM 80bil in which now, over RM105bil of sustainable financing has been mobilised to support low-carbon transition initiatives and sustainable development outcomes.

“Maybank would like to take the opportunity to dedicate these awards to the continued trust and support of its customers and acknowledge the hard work of Maybankers in endeavouring to live up to its purpose of Humanising Financial Services.”
