KUALA LUMPUR: Zecon Bhd’s subsidiary, Zecon Medicare Sdn Bhd (ZMC), has signed a renewable energy power purchase agreement (REPPA) with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), marking the start of Zecon’s first solar photovoltaic (PV) project.
Under the agreement, ZMC will generate, supply, and sell renewable electricity from a 2MW rooftop solar PV system at Hospital Tunku Ampuan Besar Tuanku Aishah Rohani and Hospital Pakar Kanak-Kanak UKM (HosTAR).
The solar electricity will be used by UKM under a self-consumption scheme, supporting their operational power needs while significantly reducing their carbon footprint.
As a registered PV investor (RPVI) with the Sustainable Energy Development Authority, ZMC will handle the entire development lifecycle of the project. This includes design, financing, installation, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, insurance, operation, and maintenance of the solar photovoltaic system.
The project will incorporate solar panels on the rooftops of the main hospital building and the multi-level car park at HosTAR, covering an area of approximately 13,172 square meters.
Zecon said the system will have a design capacity of 2.0MWac and generate an estimated 58 million kWh of renewable electricity over 22 years, averaging 2.6 million kWh annually.
The system will be fully operational by the end of 2025, with commercial operations starting about 18 months after the REPPA date.
“We are proud to embark on this renewable energy journey with UKM. While the project is not only a significant milestone for Zecon but also reflects our strong commitment to sustainability and the future of green energy in Malaysia.
“The renewable electricity generated will play an important role in powering HosTAR’s operations and reducing its environmental impact,” Zecon general manager corporate Brandon Goh.
